Pollyanna Gets a Root Canal

My boss teases me about being Pollyanna. And I don't know that any of my closest friends would say I am a Pollyanna, but advertising can be a pretty cynical environment, so I don't doubt that my optimism comes out at work.

Anyway- I've been having dental problems- one tooth in particular. Number 15- that bastard tooth. And I had to get a root canal Monday. I went into it telling myself that I am a mother and once you've given birth, nothing is that hard. Plus I told them to crank up the laughing gas- which is probably the reason it wasn't so bad. And I realized, while under the influence of laughing gas, that maybe it's because I am a Pollyanna, or maybe I have the wildest imagination ever, but I get SO into things. Like really absurdly into things.

I hate the dentist, but I was actually lying there asking them all about the procedure, asking if I could see the nerve when they yanked it out, and thinking to myself "This isn't so bad. Maybe I should go into the dental field." I really, seriously thought that. Which isn't so different from when I was pregnant and I considered becoming an ob/gyn nurse...or even when I go to bridal or baby showers and I get so excited that I start to feel like I am that person's best friend because I'm just so thrilled for them, or even when I was little and wanted to be a squirrel...a grocery store clerk...a mechanic...a tetherball salesman. Yes, really. I spent hours of my youth playing tetherball and then decided to up the ante by fake selling them to fake people. Oh gosh, the business model was amazing.

Anyway- maybe I am a bit of a Pollyanna. Maybe I am crazy. But all in all- I think that trying to see something good or at least interesting in every situation makes life a lot more fun. And well, so does laughing gas, but that's another story.
