Tacky?

So I realize that I have always had a not-so-secret love for considerably tacky things. It started with my grandmother, Gay Nell, who had hot pink lipstick. Oh I loved her and her hot pink lipstick. My mom never wore any lipstick and I swore that when I had the opportunity (around 13 or 14, I figured) I would wear bright red lipstick and always have freshly polished, matching red nails. When my grandmother died, we grandchildren were told to walk through her house and pick something special to keep. I remember walking straight to her bedroom, rooting through the makeup on her vanity, and selecting the hot pink L'oreal lipstick. I still have it. Okay, so this story sets the scene, but let's fast forward about 20 years and consider the clearly tacky things I still happen to love.

1) Little Mama- "y'all did y'all thing"
2) J.Lo circa 2000 (the Diddy period)
3) acrylic nails- about once a year at Baylor I would get a set
4) CZ earrings that often accidentally end cell phone calls because they are so big.

Anyway- all of this to say that I think I am newly in love with vintage costume jewelry. I have always loved bakelite- mainly for the colors and the modern design- but this new love is quite the departure for me. I found a few of these bangles on ebay and I feel like I have to have one. Am I crazy?

Also readers, do you like my new blog design? I'm not sure that I do. I like the colors- but I hate peely things (especially peely vintage wallpaper- so lame) and I hate damask. Also- please ignore that the background came from shabbyblogs.com. SHABBY is the worst word, look, design aesthetic EVER.

  1. as a faithful reader of evolving eloise, i really like the new blog design. in fact i almost chose it, unknowingly of course, for a home decor store blog background this week and am glad i didn't because i wouldn't want to overlap... and i can see it here which gives me a win both ways.

...i also noticed your readership is 100% for it and with such a unified opinion, well you've clearly hit on something great.

and eloise, i too love those vintage bracelets! if i had my way i would have the one that opens and shuts with green and diamond patterns.

in fact, if you do bid on them and need a buyer, i could be in the market!
